The ‘Queer’ Center at UW will be hosting Janet Mock. To be honest with you, I don’t know much about Janet Mock (except that she hangs out with bell hooks, so she must be pretty neat). What I do know is that she is a trans* woman who has written a book discussing her transition. I think it’s important to learn the stories of Black trans women — and also to be a Black woman in the audience — to show up, if it’s possible, to learn. I think that’s equally important, in my own opinion.
This will be happening next week on Tuesday evening, and so for me, it makes it very convenient to attend, since it’s timed perfectly after all of my other stuff. Kane Hall has pretty big rooms, so I’m thinking there will quite a large turn out, and the advertisements say to get there early. Who’s coming with?
When: Tuesday, October 14
Where: Kane Hall 120
Time: 7:00 PM
